In Les Gavarres nature reserve, between Girona and Begur, Mas Mateu occupies an extensive 18th-century estate overlooking the Pyrenees. Monastery stairs and a medieval church door complement modern comforts. The main house accommodates 18 adults and seven children; three separate residences sleep four, four and six. Round-the-clock staff include chefs, a sommelier and concierge, arranging yachts, golf, transfers and nearby riding. Facilities include a spa, gym, cinema, library, wine cellar, helipad, 18m pool and sports equipment. Walking trails cross Les Gavarres; Girona is under an hour away, Pals and Begur 15 minutes. Costa Brava offers beaches, vineyards and gastronomy; local chefs prepare Catalan meals.

Inclusions

Villa manager and guest experience services.
A personal butler who also serves as sommelier. Groups of 18 guests or more receive a second butler and an additional waiter.
A private culinary team, including a pastry chef and waiters. A food deposit must be paid in advance with the villa balance; the amount depends on guest numbers.
On arrival, traditional canapés prepared by the head chef and butler are served with fine local wines, soft drinks and juices.
Daily housekeeping by a team working in shifts. Turndown is also available at 9pm. Staffing levels depend on the confirmed number of guests.
Master-bedroom linen is replaced daily unless guests prefer fewer changes. For Saturday-to-Saturday stays, linen in all other suites is replaced on Monday and Wednesday, and more often if needed. Pool and bath towels are replaced daily or as required.
An in-house massage therapist provides one hour of massage service each day.
Toiletries are complimentary.
VAT and tourism tax are included.
Standard rental inclusions cover water, gas and electricity; Wi-Fi; air-conditioning and heating where available; bed linen and towels on arrival, with weekly changes for stays exceeding 7 nights; welcome items; final cleaning; and garden and pool maintenance. At some properties, electricity, air-conditioning and heating may have weekly usage allowances where specified in the extra notes.

The ground floor contains an office, living room, dining area, private cinema, fully equipped kitchen with a wine room, and a library with a fireplace, card table and billiards.
The two upper floors contain nine adult bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and queen- or king-size beds. Two children's bedrooms share seven single beds between them and have no air-conditioning.
The wellness area includes a gym, sauna, sunken hot tub and massage tables.
Accommodation comprises a living room with a fireplace, kitchen, dining space for six guests and three bedrooms.
A straightforward building suited best to teenagers or staff offers two double bedrooms sharing a separate bathroom, alongside a fully equipped kitchen and living room.
A two-bedroom guest apartment accommodates four additional guests.
Guests have use of a helipad, summer kitchen, 18m infinity pool and pool house.
The estate includes a football pitch, tennis, padel and basketball courts, and an equestrian centre. Equipment is provided for beach volleyball, rugby, badminton, pétanque, archery, quad biking and cycling.

Extra notes

Pool heating costs an additional EUR 250 per day, subject to weather conditions, with a maximum temperature of 30 degrees. Laundry service starts at EUR 40 per person per week. Delicate garments, including but not limited to cashmere and silk, are excluded and sent to an external laundry. Rental prices depend on the number of guests. Displayed rates cover the maximum occupancy of 39: 25 in the main house, six in Director's House, four in Guard House and four in Guest Apartment. Smaller groups can book at lower rates. The main villa can be rented for up to 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 guests; contact your villa specialist for details. A food and beverage deposit (APA) is payable in advance with the balance. Your travel consultant will confirm the amount according to party size; for example, the deposit for 20 guests is EUR 15,000. All rooms have air-conditioning except the children's bedroom. Director's House receives the same services as the main house, but its interiors are light and contemporary rather than historically detailed and formally elegant. It is approximately a two- to three-minute walk from the main house. Guard House has traditional rustic interiors and no air-conditioning; fans are provided. It is therefore best suited to additional staff and stands within 50 metres of the main house. Outside peak season, stays from three nights are available with flexible changeover days.
