Near Brucoli, Podere Il Baglio occupies 45 hectares on the Hyblaean plateau’s edge, north of Syracuse, overlooking Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea. The restored estate combines antique furnishings with colourful bedrooms: ten face the courtyard and two open towards the herb garden. Orange trees, olive groves, roses and caves shape the grounds; estate produce includes marmalade, orange-blossom honey and olive oil. An Istanbul-inspired marble spa offers massages by arrangement beside the saltwater pool. A pondside Indian pavilion and outdoor dining for 24 accommodate evening meals. Beaches, Catania, Augusta’s archaeological sites and Ortigia’s market, cathedral and 13th-century castle are within easy driving distance.

Breakfast is served from 8am to 10am, lunch from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and dinner from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Different times may be arranged with the cook. The owner or villa staff collect a EUR 500 grocery deposit at check-in. Staff purchase groceries in agreement with guests; costs are reimbursed in cash against receipts. Each shopping trip incurs a EUR 30 charge. Spa access costs EUR 300 for half a day and must be requested at least 24 hours ahead. Additional staff and extra staff working hours require advance agreement and are charged at EUR 15 per hour. Air-conditioning is partial, covering the living rooms and bedrooms. Morning laundry and ironing services cost EUR 15 per hour. Each room has a basket for items requiring washing and ironing, collected every morning during cleaning. Ironing cannot be guaranteed for clothing collected on Friday mornings. The owner lives in a separate part of the villa with a private entrance, maintaining complete privacy for guests. Local regulations require city tax to be paid on site in cash, at approximately EUR 2 per person per night.
