On Lake Como’s western shore, Villa Affaccio occupies a 19th-century waterfront house in Laglio, 20 minutes’ drive north of Como. Its Italian fashion-designer owner paired original fireplaces, parquet and Art Deco window glass with Minotti sofas, Persian rugs, marble kitchen counters and Fornasetti bathroom tiles. Four bedrooms overlook the lake; a fifth occupies a private annex. The garden has a heated infinity pool, a century-old cedar and an awning-shaded terrace seating eight. A private dock and two kayaks offer access to the water. Da Luciano is a ten-minute walk away; boats reach Bellagio and Varenna, while ferries connect the lakeside towns.

The details

The main house contains four bedrooms overlooking the lake: three on the first floor and one on the second floor.
The first-floor double bedroom has a private bathroom with a Liberty-style bathtub and shower. Two additional rooms, each configurable with a double bed or twin beds, share a bathroom with a bathtub and separate shower. The second-floor double/twin bedroom has its own bathroom with a Jacuzzi.
A self-contained annex a few metres from the main terrace contains the fifth bedroom, which can be arranged with a double bed or twin beds. Its en suite shower room allows guests to stay independently of the main house.
On the ground floor, an open-plan living and dining room has a fireplace. The kitchen has marble worktops and a table for eight. Both rooms overlook the lake.
The lower ground floor, at garden level, contains a family room with a billiard table, satellite TV and large windows facing the lake, together with a guest WC and laundry room.
Stone stairs descend through the garden to the heated infinity pool, with sunbeds and a barbecue area close by. Another 40 steps lead to the private dock and the lake.

Extra notes

The garden level can only be reached by stairs, so the property is unsuitable for guests with mobility difficulties. Local regulations require the city tax to be paid in cash on site. Heating is charged according to metered consumption and paid on site. Rentals between 1 October and 30 April incur a winter utility charge of €500 per week. Outside chef services are not allowed. A private chef can be arranged on request for an additional charge. Check-in begins at 4:30pm, and check-out must be completed by 9:30am. Arrivals between 7pm and midnight incur a €100 check-in fee. Parties, weddings, events, and commercial filming or photography require the owner’s prior written permission. Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors. Pets require the owner’s prior approval and cost €200 per week. A pet agreement must be signed.
