Built in 1909 over a medieval watchtower’s foundations, Villa du Lac occupies Lake Como’s eastern shore in Torno. Once owned by sculptor Giuseppe Croff, its marble stairs, parquet and arched windows frame antiques including a Sébastien Érard harp and Vittorio Raineri aquatint. A 2024 renovation added contemporary facilities. Eight bedrooms occupy the main house and boathouse, above terraced gardens descending to the dock. A private garden passage reaches Torno in five minutes; Como is ten minutes by car, while Moltrasio and Cernobbio are accessible by boat. Local fishing trips and stargazing can be arranged, with two resident caretakers available throughout each stay via WhatsApp.

The details

The estate’s highest level contains the gatehouse where the two resident caretakers live. One level down, an enclosed garage accommodates four cars and provides EV charging; an organic garden sits outside.
The main villa’s ground floor contains a fully equipped kitchen and a shared space with dining for 16, a separate table for six, a living room, a TV room and a staff area.
Two first-floor suites have king-size beds and lake views. One includes a private study, walk-in wardrobe and bathtub; the other has a fireplace.
Three additional bedrooms have queen-size beds and marble bathrooms, one with a bathtub. All overlook the lake and village, and two share a balcony.
The second floor has two spacious bedrooms with king-size beds, one convertible into twins, and en-suite bathrooms, one with a bathtub. One bedroom has low ceilings.
The boathouse contains a generous living space with a dining area, a sitting room with a TV, a fully equipped kitchen, and a double bedroom with a queen-size bed, en-suite bathroom and lake views.
An externally accessed games room on the boathouse’s lower level includes billiards, table tennis, a TV and a fridge.
The grounds include a private spa with a sauna, a lake-view gym, a 12-metre heated freshwater pool, an outdoor hot tub, an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and pizza oven, an art room with vaulted ceilings and arched lake-view windows, a waterfall, and a private dock providing lake access.
A private footpath connects the property to Torno village in approximately one minute.

Extra notes

Pool heating up to 28°C and Jacuzzi heating up to 38°C are included only from June to September. In April, May and October, heating to 82°F/28°C for the pool and 100°F/38°C for the Jacuzzi is available for €500 per week. An electric car charger is available. Outside chef services are not allowed. A private chef can be arranged on request for an additional fee. Dinners cost extra. An additional bedroom with two single beds is available on request in the Boat House. With limited privacy and a view over the ground-floor living area, it is most suitable for children or teenagers. Local regulations require city tax to be paid on site in cash, at approximately €3 per person per night.
