Built by a merchant to watch his boats, Villa San Giacomo occupies Positano’s “golden hill”, sunlit from dawn to dusk. Eighteenth-century tiles, painted ceilings, Italian antiques and patterned furnishings define its colourful interiors. All eight bedrooms open onto terraces overlooking town and the Li Galli islands. Rosemary, lavender, citrus, fig and olive trees fill the hillside garden around an infinity pool. The colonnaded terrace hosts meals and quiet afternoons. Positano offers restaurants, boutiques and cafés; nearby outings include the excavated Roman villa beneath the main church, cooking lessons at Buca di Bacco and Taverna del Leone, family-run for over 60 years.

The details

The ground floor contains an indoor dining room, a living room opening onto the terrace, and a fully equipped kitchen with a traditional wood-fired oven.
The first floor and lower ground floor accommodate eight double bedrooms, all convertible to twin beds, each with a private shower room and terrace access.
Access from the street is by stairs or a public elevator run by the township of Positano; charges and operating times are determined locally.
For an additional charge, a fourth floor offers four more bedrooms, each with a private shower room, increasing accommodation to 24 guests in 12 bedrooms.

Extra notes

A 50% deposit is required to confirm the booking. On arrival, a cash deposit of €3,000 is required for groceries and guest needs. Cars cannot reach the villa directly. An elevator links Viale Marconi, the main street, with upper Positano and opens immediately opposite the villa’s garden entrance. It operates from 8 am until midnight. Outside these hours, access involves an uphill walk of approximately 400 metres from the main street and around 190 steps. Events, including wedding receptions and parties, can be arranged at the villa; an event fee applies. Local regulations require city tax to be paid on site in cash. Drinks from bedroom minibars are charged according to consumption. Additional housekeeping costs €40 per hour, subject to availability. Laundry costs €35 per machine. Porter service is available beyond arrival and departure. Staff take one day off each week.
